Michigan Nagar Association

(March 2003 – Issue # 2)

After a cold winter, most of us are looking forward to spring and have some fun. In our efforts to have continuing activities at Michigan Nagar Association, we have planned some very exciting events in 2003:

Patvotsav Celebration: Patvotsav is a very significant event for Nagar community. We invite you for this celebration. The program will begin by performing a Pooja of Hatkeshwar Mahadev, and followed by a debate for children, cultural program and dinner.

Day and date: Saturday, 4/26/2003

Time: 5:00 PM to 10 PM (Enter by 5:30 PM to be eligible for a raffle ticket per family. There will be three prizes drawn at random.)

Kids 6 to 12 years – 6 dollars per child

No charge for kids less than 6 years.

Since we are required to make commitment ahead of time, please mail your check to reach Jwalant Lakhia by Friday, 4/11/03. The check can be made payable to Jwalant Lakhia and mailed at 480 Stonehenge Dr., Canton, MI 48188.

Debate: We are holding this activity for the first time. The debate is open to all children below 15 years. There are two interesting subjects to choose from:

What is Patvotsav?

What does it mean to be a Hindu?

Each child will be have up to 5 minutes to speak on the subject of their choice. Please encourage your child to participate. Our community gathering provides an excellent opportunity to be on the stage. There will be a panel of impartial judges. There will be prizes awarded to two winners.

Cultural program: We invite you and your children to participate in the cultural program. The performance may include singing, dance, jokes, etc.

For participation in debate as well as cultural program, please contact Mainaki Chhaya (Dchhaya@hotmail.com; 248-879-8730) or Shreya Lakhia (Jlakhia@yahoo.com; 734-331-4331). Please confirm your participation by Saturday, 4/19/03. In view of the short time available to us, we will not be able to take spontaneous entry.

No program can be successful without active participation and solid support from the community members. We are counting on you and look forward to seeing you at Patvotsav on 4/26/03.
